PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- FaceToFaceMeeting, the desktop and laptop video conferencing service over the public Internet, today announced an important feature enhancement to assist the deaf and those with hearing impairments who subscribe to its Consumer Service. The new Video Instant Messaging (VIM) feature allows deaf and hearing-impaired users to participate in the "complete" communication process, seeing the other subscribers "live" image while concurrently using text messaging.
The FaceToFaceMeeting Consumer Service has added this VIM feature in addition to its near television quality, fully synchronized voice and video images for both one-on-one video conferencing, and multi-point meetings. The multi-point feature allows up to 10 participants to be on the PC screen together, in Hollywood Squares style, all being able to see and speak together just as if they were in the same room.

"The addition of the Video Instant Messaging feature is a direct response to the interest in FaceToFaceMeeting among the deaf and hearing impaired communities in the United States and United Kingdom," stated Peter J. Moriarty, the president and founder of FaceToFaceMeeting LLC. "We learned that people who are hearing impaired really appreciated the high quality video images which enabled them to either 'sign' or lip-read."
"However, it became clear that by adding the Video Instant Messaging feature, FaceToFaceMeeting would be providing a comprehensive communication tool for this significant group of people," he added. "And at less than $1 a day, U.S. based subscribers receive unlimited minutes of video conferencing so that they can see and communicate with other subscribers any where in the world."
